On Day 1 we reviewed:
- Lessons 1 and 2 in Buntús na Gaeilge, including indefinite copula constructions, singular nouns and adjectives, the article, to like/prefer.
- Obair Bhaile (recommended): Read Lesson 2 'Obair Bhaile' #2a ("Seo é Niall Ó Dónaill", etc.) and do #2b ("Write blurbs...").
On Day 2 we learned:
- Possessive pronouns
- Initial mutations: lenition (séimhiú) and eclipsis (urú)
- Reviewed ownership (Is liomsa an ___ seo.) - Ceacht 2, 4.1
- Obair Bhaile: pp. 29-30, exercises 1 (10 questions) and 2 (5 questions).
On Day 3 we learned:
- Vocabulary (pp. 24-25)
- mo theach féin 'my own house' (p. 27, 1.4)
- The copula: introduction to classification (indefinite) vs. identification (definite) structure
- Identification copula sentences using the emphatic pronoun, e.g. Is mise Áine; Is eisean an múinteoir. (p. 27, 2.1)
- 'That/this is' - simple and complex structure - classification (indefinite) vs. identification (definite)
- Sin é múinteoir ------> Sin é an múinteoir.
- Is múinteoir é sin ---> Is é sin an múinteoir.
- Names (proper nouns) and possessive pronoun + nouns (mo theach) are also definite.
- Obair Bhaile: p. 30, exercise 3a+b (10 questions). If you have extra time, it would be worthwhile to rewrite each sentence with indefinite nouns.
On Day 4 we learned:
- 2.2.3 - The 'echoing' pronoun in identification (definite) copula sentences without an emphatic or demonstrative pronoun
- 2.3 - Responses to identification (definite) copula sentences.
- Is é/í (etc.) = 'Sé / 'Sí.
- 3. Prefixed adjectives sean- and droch-.
- Obair Bhaile: p. 31, #2 (all but 8.)
On Day 5 we learned:
- 2.2.4 - The 'proleptic' pronoun in identification (definite) copula sentences with a definite/proper noun subject and object
- Is é Seán ár múinteoir.
- Is é an damhsóir ár múinteoir.
- The 'proleptic' pronoun in classification (indefinite) copula sentences with a definite/proper noun subject and an indefinite object
- Is múinteoir é Seán.
- Is damhsóir í an múinteoir.
- Obair bhaile: Review the paradigms (p. 139/last page of handout) and compose at least one of each type of sentence (definite and indefinite). Total: at least 10 sentences.
On Day 6 we learned:
- We worked on all the different types of copula sentences we have learned (see paradigms).
- The substantitve verb (tá, níl, an bhfuil, nach bhfuil) (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4)
- Dependent Pronouns
- Vocabulary: adjectives
- Obair bhaile: p. 54, #1.
On Day 7 we learned:
- Conjugated prepositions le (review) and ar
- 'ar' + names: Cén t-ainm atá ort?
- 'ar' + clothing: Tá hata dearg air.
- 'ar' + emotions and illnesses: Tá áthas orm; níl tinneas cinn orm.
- Questions:
- Céard atá sé/sí ag caitheamh?
- Céard atá cearr leis/léi?
- Obair Bhaile: p. 55, #1 (except 2 and 7)
